Feature lines(roads, streams, forest boundaries...) are recorded on transects. All measurements are realized by modern electronical devices and data are stored in field computer directly in forest. The part of data is ensured by aerial photo evaluation in office.Special software is used for processing and statistical evaluation of data. Data can be evaluated for different territorial levels. Results are presented for the Czech republic level and for single counties."""@en, """Národní inventarizace lesů je zjišťování stavu lesa, prováděné na celém území České republiky. Jejím úkolem je podat přesné souhrnné údaje o stavu lesů a dále při opakovaných šetřeních zejména o vývoji lesů v České republice z pohledu životního prostředí i z hlediska hospodářského využití. Převážná část údajů, které jsou v rámci Národní inventarizace lesů využívány pro výpočty, je získána venkovním šetřením prováděným speciálně pro účely inventarizace. Část údajů je získávána z ortofotomap (výměra lesa) a z jiných zdrojů (zejm. mapy – okres, kraj, přírodní lesní oblast, ve kterých plocha leží, nadmořská výška; Katastr nemovitostí – druh vlastnictví).Venkovní šetření v rámci NIL se děje na inventarizačních plochách a transektech, jejichž středy byly generovány náhodným způsobem. Celá republika je pro tyto účely rozdělena čtvercovou sítí 2 x 2 km. Na plochách se zjišťují dendrometrické a technické vlastnosti stromů a dále ekologické charakteristiky lesa. Na transektech se zaznamenávají zejména liniové prvky (cesty, toky, okraje lesa…). Veškeré měření je prováděno moderními elektronickými přístroji a přímo v lese jsou data ukládána do terénního počítače. Část údajů se zjišťuje v kanceláři vyhodnocováním leteckých snímků. Ke zpracování a statistickému vyhodnocení dat je použito speciálních počítačových programů. Data je možné vyhodnotit na různých územních úrovních.
