Geographical names of the Czech Republic

The publication is based on the recommendations of the UN conferences on the standardisation of geographical names. It contains more than 4 000 selected toponyms (names of geographical objects) within the scope of a 1:500 000 map. It is a list of names of settlement and non-settlement objects. The list of settlement objects indicates whether the object is a municipality, a city or a part thereof, as well as the administrative division. For non-settlement objects the division is more complex and additional data are provided. The altitude is specified for mountains, mountain passes and saddles, as well as for caves and chasms. For watercourses, not only the length in kilometres is given, but also the classification into a higher-order catchment area; for water surfaces, the average area and the name of the flowing watercourse are specified. It is therefore a handy encyclopaedia of geographical names for the territory of the Czech Republic.
