The Map of Regions of the Czech Republic 1:250 000 (MK 250) is published as an overview map of the entire territory of individual regions (in the case of the Central Bohemian Region, also the administrative district of the Capital City of Prague) established by the territorial administrative division of the Czech Republic. Its purpose is to provide a comprehensive view of the administrative district of the relevant region and to enable users to navigate the given territory easily. MK 250 covers the territory of the Czech Republic in 13 map sheets of various formats according to the extent and shape of individual regions. MK 250 does not have a continuous layout of map sheets (map sheets overlap). The data and graphical basis for MK 250 is the geographical model Data250 for the territory of the Czech Republic, and the geographical models EuroRegionalMap and EuroBoundaryMap for territories outside the Czech Republic. The terrain relief in the form of shaded relief is based on data from the digital elevation model EuroDEM. MK 250 contains planimetry, altimetry, descriptions, and frame and non-frame data. The planimetry includes settlements, roads, hydrography, administrative boundaries (state, regional, district, administrative districts of municipalities with extended competence), boundaries of large-scale specially protected areas, vegetation and land surface (forests, marshes, peatlands); the altimetry is represented by elevation points and shaded relief; the description includes standardised geographical nomenclature. The content of MK 250 is shown across the entire map field of individual map sheets, including adjacent parts of the territories of neighbouring states.
MK 250 belongs to the thematic national map series. MK 250 maps are topographical in character and contain planimetry, altimetry, and map lettering. The purpose of MK 250 is to provide a comprehensive view of the administrative district of the respective region and to enable users to orientate themselves easily within the given area. Given the level of detail and degree of generalisation, MK 250 is intended primarily for the study and assessment of the geographical environment at the level of a higher territorial unit, for strategic and conceptual planning and design of territorially extensive structures and construction projects, for environmental protection policy planning, and similar purposes.
