Fundamental Base of Geographic Data of the Czech Republic (ZABAGED®) is a vector geographic digital model of the territory of the Czech Republic (ČR).
At present time the planimetric component of ZABAGED® consists of 141 feature types as settlements, communications, utility networks and pipelines, hydrography, administrative units and protected areas, vegetation and land cover, terrain relief and selected data about survey control points.
The features are represented by 2D vector spatial component and a descriptive component containing qualitative and quantitative information about features.
ZABAGED® is exploited as a fundamental layer in geographic information systems (GIS), primarily in information systems of the public service. It is also the main data source for the creation of basic topographic maps of the CR at scales of 1:5,000 to 1:100,000.

Creation and first complement process for ZABAGED® started in 1995 by vector digitization of ZM 10 printing masters. This fundamental digitization was (with exception of settlements built-up areas) finished in 2001. Up to the end of the first quarters 2004 ZABAGED® was completed by the features of built-up areas; other descriptive and qualitative attributes including selected identifiers types were added to the database and the individual save units (in the extent of ZM 10) were stitched into the "seamless" database. Parallel from 2001 first full-area update of ZABAGED® aimed at giving more accuracy and recency of the planimetric component and revision and completing of attribute part of the database took place. Especially photogrammetric methods and topographic reconnaissance directly in the field were used. This first update was finished in 2005. Between 2006 and 2009 the second update cycle was carried out and the third one has started. The update period was continuously reduced to three years. The aerial photos and colour orthophotos created every year for one third of the territory of the CR are exploited as much as possible. Some significant features (roads, administrative boundaries and others) are updated more frequently at the whole territory, at least yearly, based on change information from the administrators.
