National Forest Inventory-NFI
National forest inventory is forest state surveing performed in whole territory of Czech republic. The main objective of national forest inventory is state forest summary data giving and data about czech forests development by repeated investigation in terms of environment and forest managment.Main aims of national forest inventory- to provide required information on forests for state administration needs- to enable data about the longterm check of state policy conseqences and state endowment policy for the forests state.National forest inventory is independent on other forest investigation manners including forest mangment plans and outlines . National forest inventory results are not influenced both by forest owners and state forest managment.

The government has decided on national forest inventory implementation by regulation No.193/2000 Coll. following the forests law No.289/1995 Coll., § 28. Forest Managment Institute in Brandýs nad Labem (ÚHUL) was authorized for inventory. The great part of data which are used for caculations in the frame of national forest inventory is based on outdoor investigation realized specifically for inventory purposes. The part of data is acquired from orthophoto maps (forest area) and from other sources (especially maps – district, county, natural forest area, in which the area is placed, height in meters above sea level, cadastral property – ownership form.)Outdoor investigation is realized on inventory areas and transects in the frame of national forest inventory. Centres of these areas were generated randomly. The whole republic is divided for this purpose into 2x2 km square grid cells. Dendrometric and technical properties of trees and further ecological forest characteristics are established on these areas. Feature lines(roads, streams, forest boundaries...) are recorded on transects. All measurements are realized by modern electronical devices and data are stored in field computer directly in forest. The part of data is ensured by aerial photo evaluation in office.Special software is used for processing and statistical evaluation of data. Data can be evaluated for different territorial levels. Results are presented for the Czech republic level and for single counties.

First inventory cycle has been realized from 2001 to 2004 while first processing data outputs were 31st December 2004, supplemented during the year 2005. Second cycle of the National Forest Inventory is running from 2011 till 2014. Results will be avaiable from 31st December 2015.
