Hellwig's map of Silesia, year 1561

Map of Silesia, Glatz, most of Upper and Lower Lusatia and the adjacent border region from 1561. Author: Martin Helwig. The map is oriented to the south. It depicts 327 settlements, hydrography, vegetation and relief. German terminology is used; descriptions are in Latin and German. It served as a model for Fabricius's map of Moravia. The map features rich heraldic decoration and includes the oldest known record of the legendary Krakonoš. It was very clear and was also intended to serve educational purposes.
